Launch My Agency founder Jason Wardrop says there’s five simple steps any beginner can follow to go from zero to $30,000 per month as a digital marketer. He launched his agency about seven years ago and grew it to more than 15,000 paying clients before a successful exit. Now he spends the majority of his time making content to share what he learned along the way. Scroll down and read on for an overview of Jason’s digital agency training.

“Now, since this is a digital marketing agency tutorial for beginners,” he says, “I wanna first break down what a digital marketing agency is and what you’ll be doing in your business. So, there are local businesses in your area (think about dentists, chiropractors, orthodontists, hair stylists, massage therapists, etc.) that are very good at doing the thing that they do. But just ’cause a massage therapist gives a really good massage, it doesn’t mean that they’re good at marketing or getting clients, right?”

“They don’t really understand the tech world,” Jason continues. “They don’t really understand all these different social media platforms. And even if they do understand ’em, a lot of them don’t have the time to go and invest into actually doing the marketing for their business. So that’s where you come in with your digital marketing agency, and you’re able to help these small local businesses get more clients. Because the more clients they get, the more money they make; and the more money they make, the more they can pay you.”

“So that’s kinda the synopsis of what a digital marketing agency actually is. And now let’s get into the five steps of how to do this. Step 1 is to identify a clientele or a niche that we’re gonna target. Don’t be a generalist, be a specialist. Step 2 is to go and create a hook. Something to get their attention. Step 3 is to develop your story. Tell them about a case study of someone just like them who you already helped. Step 4 is your promise aka your offer. What result will they get working with you? Step 5 is recurring income.”

“So maybe at first you got five clients, each of ’em’s paying you $500 a month, so that’s $2,500 a month recurring, right? And the next month you get another five clients, which stacks on top of the initial five clients, and now you’ve got 10 clients paying you $500 a month. That’s $5,000. And you continue to go through and grow that revenue. And that is the holy grail to any business, whether it’s an agency, a software business, whatever it is. You need monthly recurring revenue. And that’s the beauty of this.”

“We can go through and implement simple systems into these businesses where we don’t have to go through and do a ton of ongoing work and client fulfillment every single month; instead, the software and the systems and the tools we use are highly leveraged and offer tremendous value to each one of these small local business owners so that they don’t even think twice that they’re paying the $300, the $400, the $500 per month. They just continually pay it because they’re seeing amazing results.”

“Anyways, I hope this was useful as far as a quick tutorial on how to start a digital marketing agency. If you’re a complete beginner looking to go from zero to $10,000 a month, or even scale beyond that, that’s basically what you’d need to do in order to make that happen,” Jason says. Granted, he dumbed it down big time. There’s hundreds of other subparts of each of those five steps, and dozens of things that could go wrong. (Ask me how I know.) But a decent overview nonetheless.
